1. Synthetic gemstone developed in 1977 to simulate a diamond.
2. High quality synthetic stone that is very hard and mimics the appearance of diamonds; it is more reflective than glass or crystal and sparkles more brilliantly
3. The most successful simulated diamond. Properties such as refraction, hardness, and specific gravity are remarkably similar to diamonds. Cubic zirconia are very hard to distinguish from diamonds; sometimes a jewelers loop will be needed to see the difference.
